Community guidelines

Debated only works if people can disagree hard without it turning ugly. Argue with the idea, never the person.

Do

  • Make your case with reasons and evidence. Name your sources.
  • Answer your opponent's strongest point, not the weakest version of it.
  • Let the other person finish, especially during their opening.
  • Concede good points. It usually makes your case stronger.

Don't

  • Insult, mock or threaten your opponent, or use slurs of any kind.
  • Share sexual content or anything illegal, on camera or in chat.
  • Share personal information about yourself or anyone else.
  • Use scripts, bots or other people to debate for you.

What happens if someone breaks the rules

The AI judge flags personal attacks as they happen. Three warnings, or one severe violation such as a slur or a threat, ends the debate immediately and your opponent wins by forfeit. You can report and block anyone from the debate screen. Reports include the last minute of the transcript and are reviewed by a person. Repeated reports lead to suspension.

About the AI judge

The judge is an AI model. It only calls a claim true or false when it matches a fact card sourced from official statistics, peer-reviewed research, government bodies or established fact-checkers. It can still make mistakes. Treat its calls as a sparring partner's, not as the final word on the truth.
